I hear rumors that that’s how people get their side mirrors broke off.. But I wouldn’t know nothing about that.

Dick parking job. The fact that they have sliding doors almost makes me think it was intentional. A suburban dad giving you the middle finger for reminding him of his lost youth.

Carry a set of four and you could park his car wherever you want. Treat them as disposable items and you could send his car down one of the garage ramps....

I had the same problem as you a year ago. I parked early in the morning for Calc II and get some breakfast. I came to the deck at 3 pm to leave school and low and behold I could not get into my car. A RAV4 with korean jesus on the dash had parked so close to my car I could not open the door to at least squeeze my twig body. The amount of space the RAV4 driver side had was ridiculous. A motorcycle could park into his spot. I unload my bag and left a note saying “Great job I can’t get into my car how did you get into our Tech School. Learn to park.” I had to hop into drivers seat through the passenger. It wasn’t a big problem but just infuriating. Whether or not I traded paint with my car’s door is a different story.

The community college I attended before transferring had an incredibly high number of commuters and only two medium-sized parking structures to house their vehicles. Arriving before 8 AM, after 4 PM, or at a few ten-minute intervals in between was pretty much the only way to guarantee yourself a spot. Any other time, stabbing was preferable.
The spaces themselves were pretty tight. One afternoon some person at the end of the row had parked a little crooked, so the cars that subsequently parked next to him/her were a bit skewed, leaving even less space than normal. My car was thin enough to slide into the gap, but I had to clamber into the back seat and shimmy out of the rear door. After class was done, I walk back to the lot and lo and behold, there’s a long line of cars looking for spaces. Just as I’m about to pretzel my way back into the car, one of the other drivers flags me down.
“Hey! Are you leaving? Can I take your spot?”
Homeboy is driving a beat Sebring convertible with the top up.
“Sure, but it’s a little tight. You won’t be able to open the doors.”
This guy had to back up in order to let me out, which didn’t really sit well with the whole line behind him, who honked and muttered obscenities under their breath. I pull out, and he gingerly takes the spot. Maybe 3 inches of clearance on either side. Some of the people behind him are snickering, because he’s trapped and won’t have a chance at finding a better spot...
...until he drops the top, hops over the rear deck, flashes me a smile and a thumbs up, and goes on his merry way. I laughed the whole way home.

Thanks! This has definitely become my favorite car I’ve owned. It’s going to be filmed by the Smoking Tire as a part of their One Take series in January. Can’t wait.

Hah! I used to pull that move when I had a Wrangler. I miss being able to do that.
The annoying part here though is there there actually are plenty of spaces open, and the person next to him parked just fine. This gal or gal just pulled into the spot and didn’t give a fuck. I’m just glad they didn’t bump my car. I checked very close for that.

Now that I own a convertible myself, it’s perfect to do at the beach or other crowded locales. Just make sure everything valuable is in the glove box (part of central locking) or trunk.

Just to be devil’s advocate here...if they were parked as close to the line as you were you’d still have the same problem. Just seems like a tight parking spots.

They are definitely tight parking spots and getting in and out is usually a squeeze, but he is on top of the line. There was about 6 inches from my tire to the edge of line, so if he was the same distance from the line as I was, I’d have over a foot of room for my door to open.
Everyone else seems to be able to park in the center of their spots like I am and the person on the other side of him is, but this guy didn’t bother to readjust. This is something we do at work every day and I haven’t had an issue until now.

Can’t you guys report smoking exhaust in Cali? Because I feel like I saw a van with plate 7DUU292 emitting smoke, and I think they need to go in for an emissions test.

I’m really not sure, actually. California is actually surprisingly lax on actual safety and emissions inspections. Sure, there are a lot of rules set forward there, but the actual enforcement is a lot lighter than many other states. We don’t even have safety inspections here.

Man, I would have tried to enter via the driver’s side all sorts of ways. Climbing all over that van, maybe putting a body shaped indent on the passenger side to squeeze in. Oh, sorry, looks like my belt buckle or something got caught on their paint. Hmm. Does bending the passenger mirror get me better access? No?
Ah, hell, I’ll just get in on the passenger side of my car and go.
/I’m very careful about other people’s property, but when there is malicious intent? Sometimes you have to leave a loud and clear message things should not be tolerated.
